Even though we haven’t completed our 2009 wedding season yet, we’re getting pretty excited about all the wonderful couples we’ll be photographing next year. Laura & Christopher are one of our first 2010 weddings. I had the pleasure of photographing their engagement session while they were in town over the summer. After completing their studies at the University of Toronto, they both moved to London, U.K. to pursue successful careers in the arts. With Christopher being a talented composer and having spent many years together at school, we thought it fitting to photograph their engagement session at the University of Toronto and Royal Conservatory of Music. We can’t wait to see them again in the new year!

Liko & Simon joined us from Seattle for their wedding and luncheon reception at the beautiful Estates of Sunnybrook. With friends and family joining them from all over the globe and as far away as Hong Kong, Toronto became the common ground for their wedding celebrations.
Unfortunately, Liko’s mother was unable to travel to Toronto to be a part of her daughter’s wedding day. But by using a laptop, Web cam, and mobile data connection, Liko & Simon were still able to have her witness and participate in their wedding. During the traditional tea ceremony, it was an especially poignant moment when tea was served symbolically to her mother through video conferencing. It was the next best thing to having her there with them that day.

Taniesha & Mikko were one of our international couples celebrating their wedding in Toronto. Although they live in Finland, Taniesha is originally from Toronto. When she told me that two of Mikko’s groomsmen did not speak English, I was prepared for the challenge. However, my worries were quickly put to rest after meeting everybody. Laughter and smiles are universal no matter what language you speak.
The Old Mill was an intimate venue for their wedding celebrations. The evening was highlighted by surprise performances of traditional Jamaican folk dances. What I love about Toronto is how incredibly diverse we are in this city. I don’t know if I’ll ever get a chance to photograph a Jamaican bride together with a Finnish groom again, but if they’re anywhere as in love as Taniesha & Mikko, I’ll be looking forward to it.
