Cheryl + Steven Wedding

Cheryl & Steven Wedding

Over the past year I’ve had the wonderful opportunity to photograph many weddings here in Toronto for out-of-town couples. Taniesha & Mikko joined us all the way from Finland, Kelly & Bill came from California to get married in front of the Stanley Cup at the Hockey Hall of Fame, Liko & Simon flew in from Seattle, and Cheryl & Steven came from Fort McMurray, Alberta.  Each couple came to Toronto for different reasons, but who would have guessed that this city would be such a hot spot for destination weddings!

When I asked Cheryl & Steven why they chose to get married in Toronto, they told me it was for our city’s awesome Chinese food.  The Chinese food here is certainly some of the best this side of the Pacific.  As you probably guessed, there aren’t too many options for Chinese food in Fort McMurray.  Cheryl & Steven even told me that they sometimes drive several hours to shop at the T&T Chinese supermarket in Edmonton!

Toronto was also the perfect middle ground for Cheryl & Steven because although they both work and live in Alberta, their families are originally from the east coast.  Therefore Toronto was right in the middle for their friends and family joining them from both sides of the country.

I had friend and fellow photographer Spencer Fu help me photograph Cheryl & Steven’s wedding day.  Spencer photographed Steven as he got ready at a relative’s home, while I photographed Cheryl at the chic Drake Hotel.  Photographing their first meeting in the lobby of the Drake was such a priceless moment.  We proceeded to shoot creative portraits around the Queen West area and Gladstone Hotel before heading to City Hall for their ceremony.  The reception was at one of the city’s finest Chinese restaurants, Lai Wah Heen in the Metropolitan Hotel.

Eva + Greg Wedding

Eva & Greg Wedding

I don’t think we should be allowed to have as much fun as we did at Eva & Greg’s wedding!  They are easily two of the sweetest people that we’ve met all year and their bridal party and friends were a blast.  We were laughing the entire day; from the morning when we photographed them getting ready until the end of the night.  There were so many memorable moments; Mo’ cracking jokes to get everybody in stitches, Greg’s rendition of the infamous “Carlton Dance“, to Greg’s Father strutting it on the dance floor.  It’s memories like these that make weddings so much fun for us to photograph.

Thank you Eva & Greg, your friends and family, for sharing so many memories and laughs with us.

Kay + Ted Wedding

Kay & Ted Wedding

Kay & Ted were both great to work with on their wedding day.  They’re both really relaxed individuals, which made for a really fun wedding day for both themselves and their guests.  Like many of our couples this year, they just tried to enjoy every moment and not get to wrapped up in the anxiety of the day.  What was even more amazing I discovered was that Kay was finishing up her post-grad degree around the time that she was concurrently planning for the wedding.  Ted also left the workforce to pursue post-grad studies as well, so it was an incredibly busy year for both of them.  We’re glad that they had such a good handle on the wedding plans despite their obviously busy schedules!

Andrea, who is my usual associate photogapher was taking a well-deserved break, so I had my friend and fellow professional photographer Kevin Fung join me for their wedding day.  We started by photographing the girls getting ready before heading to the ceremony at Timothy Eaton Memorial Church.  It’s an absolutely beautiful church and we’re looking forward to photographing there again in the new year with a few of our 2010 couples.  We photographed their creative portraits around the Main Street Unionville area before heading to the reception at the Hilton Suites Markham.  It was great to also see Eva & Greg, whose wedding we photographed a few short weeks later.  Eva, Greg, Kay and Ted are all soccer buddies which is how we got to meet these two amazing couples.

Thank you Kay & Ted for letting us be a part of your day.
