Micheline + William Engagement

Micheline & Will Engagement

On the day that William proposed to Micheline, he had a plan on where and how he was going to pop the big question.  However, each time his plans kept getting thrown off track.  Before long she was starting to get very suspicious!  We’re glad that William was able to finally pop the question before his plans were foiled!  Funny enough, for their engagement photos, we re-visited many of the locations where William had tried to propose.  Here are some of my favourite images.

2009 Weddings + Engagements Slideshow

What an amazing year!  We began 2009 with our first wedding in January and completed a successful year with our very last wedding in late-November.  We have so many fond memories from all the incredible celebrations we were privileged to photograph.  We shared lots of laughs and shed a few happy tears along the way.  We’re sincerely humbled that so many wonderful couples chose us to share in their big day.

The 2009 wedding season took us to faraway places like the beautiful islands of the Bahamas, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the Turks & Caicos.  Back home we got the rare opportunity to photograph a wedding at the Hockey Hall of Fame.  The wedding season also took us to the top of downtown skyscrapers and into the backyards of country homes.  Wherever we were, the themes were the same: love, family, and friends.  Our hope was to photograph these rare moments with our artful approach, capture genuine emotions, and document one of the biggest celebrations in our couples’ lives.

Thanks to Kevin Fung and Spencer Fu for helping us on a few days to photograph these wonderful celebrations.

Here is a compilation of my favourite wedding and engagement images from 2009.

Left My Heart in Tokyo

Osaka, Japan. 2010.

I have just returned from a wonderful trip to Japan, a country that I have been eager to visit for a long time.  Although I have stopped in Japan while connecting on flights throughout Asia on many occasions, I have never had the opportunity to really explore the country until now.  It is truly a surreal place that strikes a balance between modern life and rich traditions.  Despite language barriers, it was the incredibly hospitable and well-mannered Japanese people that left a lasting impression on me the most.  You couldn’t go anywhere without being greeted with a smile and eagerness to help.  I made my way through Osaka, Kyoto, Hakone, and lastly Tokyo.  It was wonderful to explore the unique character of each place.  Some of the many highlights of this trip for me were seeing geisha and maiko perform a traditional dance, soaking in an open air hot spring (onsen) near Mount Fuji, experiencing the massive crowds at the Shibuya crossing, and eating the freshest sushi straight from the Tokyo fish market.

Before things get really busy with the wedding season, I decided to plan my visit to Japan for early April to coincide with the annual hanami celebrations.  This is when Japan’s famous cherry (sakura) and plum (ume) blossoms appear all across the country.  Whenever I get the opportunity to travel I try to go with a photographic project in mind.  This time it was to document the hanami celebrations in Japan.  It was very refreshing to photograph some personal work and I am looking forward to sharing more images from my travels shortly.
